Compare the2024 Honda PassportVS 2024 Jaguar E-Pace

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Honda Passport are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Jaguar E-Pace doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Passport are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The E-Pace doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

Both the Passport and the E-Pace have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras and rear cross-path warning.

There are almost 6 times as many Honda dealers as there are Jaguar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Passport’s warranty.

The engine in the Passport has a single overhead cam for simplicity. The engine in the E-Pace has dual overhead cams, which add to the number of moving parts and the complexity of the cylinder heads.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Passport’s reliability 41 points higher than the E-Pace.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Honda vehicles are more reliable than Jaguar With 3 fewer problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, J.D. Power ranks Honda higher than Jaguar.

The Passport’s 3.5 SOHC V6 produces 34 more horsepower (280 vs. 246) than the E-Pace’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

As tested in Motor Trend the Honda Passport is faster than the Jaguar E-Pace:

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Passport’s fuel efficiency. The E-Pace doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Honda Passport uses regular unleaded gasoline. The E-Pace requires premium, which can cost on average about 82.8 cents more per gallon.

The Passport has 1.8 gallons more fuel capacity than the E-Pace (19.5 vs. 17.7 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The Passport has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The E-Pace doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

The Passport has a standard locking fuel door with a power remote release convenient to the driver. The fuel filler door is not lockable on the E-Pace. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank.

The Passport stops shorter than the E-Pace:

For better traction, the Passport has larger standard tires than the E-Pace (245/60R18 vs. 235/55R19). The Passport EX-L/Elite’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the E-Pace (265/45R20 vs. 245/45R20).

The Passport has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The E-Pace doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Passport’s wheelbase is 5.3 inches longer than on the E-Pace (110.9 inches vs. 105.6 inches).

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the Passport is 2.7 inches wider in the front and 2.8 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the E-Pace.

For greater off-road capability the Passport has a greater minimum ground clearance than the E-Pace (8.1 vs. 8 inches), allowing the Passport to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The Passport uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The E-Pace doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

As tested by Car and Driver, the interior of the Passport Elite is quieter than the E-Pace SE:

The Passport has 1.1 inches more front headroom, .8 inches more front legroom, 5.9 inches more front shoulder room, 1.7 inches more rear headroom, 5.3 inches more rear legroom and 6.1 inches more rear shoulder room than the E-Pace.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Passport’s rear seats recline. The E-Pace’s rear seats don’t recline.

The Passport has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the E-Pace with its rear seat up (41.2 vs. 22.4 cubic feet). The Passport has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the E-Pace with its rear seat folded (77.7 vs. 49.5 cubic feet).

The Passport’s cargo area is larger than the E-Pace’s in every dimension:

Pressing a button automatically lowers the Passport’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The E-Pace doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

The Passport’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the E-Pace’s (5000 vs. 3968 pounds).

If the windows are left open on the Passport the driver can close them all at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows at the outside door handle or from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the E-Pace can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

Consumer Reports rated the Passport’s headlight performance “Very Good,” a higher rating than the E-Pace’s headlights, which were rated “Fair.”

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Passport has standard extendable sun visors. The E-Pace doesn’t offer extendable visors.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Passport to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The E-Pace doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

Standard air-conditioned seats in the Passport Elite keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The E-Pace doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

The Passport TrailSport/Elite has a 115-volt a/c outlet, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The E-Pace doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

Insurance will cost less for the Passport owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the Passport will cost $1885 to $2230 less than the E-Pace over a five-year period.

The Passport will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the Passport will retain 52.97% to 53.54% of its original price after five years, while the E-Pace only retains 51.25%.

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Honda Passport will be $5614 to $8991 less than for the Jaguar E-Pace.

Consumer Reports® recommends the Honda Passport, based on reliability, safety and performance. The Jaguar E-Pace isn't recommended.
