Compare the2025 Kia EV6VS 2024 Toyota Mirai

Both the EV6 and Mirai have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The EV6 has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Mirai’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the EV6 are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Mirai doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The EV6 offers all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The Mirai doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the EV6 has standard Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning with Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, systems which detect vehicles approaching from the sides and can automatically apply the brakes to prevent a collision. Parking Support Brake costs extra on the Mirai.

Both the EV6 and the Mirai have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The EV6 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Mirai’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 2 years or 24,000 miles sooner.

Kia’s powertrain warranty covers the EV6 5 years and 40,000 miles longer than Toyota covers the Mirai. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the Mirai ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Kia vehicles are better in initial quality than Toyota vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Kia fourth in initial quality, above the industry average. With 29 more problems per 100 vehicles, Toyota is ranked 17th.

The EV6 Light Short Range’s standard electric motor produces 37 lbs.-ft. more torque (258 vs. 221) than the Mirai’s electric motor. The EV6 Long Range’s standard electric motor produces 43 more horsepower (225 vs. 182) and 37 lbs.-ft. more torque (258 vs. 221) than the Mirai’s electric motor. The EV6 Long Range’s optional electric motors produces 138 more horsepower (320 vs. 182) and 225 lbs.-ft. more torque (446 vs. 221) than the Mirai’s electric motor. The EV6 GT’s standard electric motors produces 459 more horsepower (641 vs. 182) and 347 lbs.-ft. more torque (568 vs. 221) than the Mirai’s electric motor.

For better traction, the EV6 GT-Line e-AWD’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Mirai (255/45R20 vs. 245/45R20).

The EV6 GT’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Mirai Limited’s optional 45 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the EV6 GT has standard 21-inch wheels. The Mirai’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.

The EV6 offers an available driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The Mirai’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the EV6 is .8 inches wider in the front and 1.4 inches wider in the rear than the track on the Mirai.

The EV6 GT handles at .87 G’s, while the Mirai XLE pulls only .84 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The EV6 is 11 inches shorter than the Mirai, making the EV6 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The front grille of the EV6 uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Mirai doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The EV6 has .6 inches more front headroom, .2 inches more front legroom, 1.3 inches more rear headroom, 5.9 inches more rear legroom, .4 inches more rear hip room and 1.2 inches more rear shoulder room than the Mirai.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the EV6’s rear seats recline. The Mirai’s rear seats don’t recline.

The EV6’s standard rear seats fold to accommodate long and bulky cargo. The Mirai doesn’t offer folding rear seats.

To make loading and unloading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the EV6 Wind/GT-Line/GT’s power liftgate can be opened just by waiting momentarily behind the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The EV6’s power liftgate can also be opened or closed by pressing a button. The Mirai doesn’t offer a power or hands-free opening trunk.

The EV6 offers up to a 2300 lbs. towing capacity. The Mirai has no towing capacity.

A maintenance reminder system is standard on the EV6 to save the owner time and money by calculating maintenance intervals based on odometer mileage. This takes the guesswork out of keeping your vehicle in top condition and helps it last longer. Toyota doesn’t offer a maintenance reminder on the Mirai.

The EV6’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Mirai XLE’s standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

On extremely cold winter days, the EV6’s optional (except Short Range) heated steering wheel provides comfort, allowing the driver to steer safely and comfortably before the vehicle heater warms up. The Mirai doesn’t offer a heated steering wheel.

The EV6 GT-Line/GT’s Smart Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Smart Parking Assist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The Mirai Limited’s automatic parking system does not offer parking by remote control.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the EV6 first among compact suvs in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The Mirai isn’t in the top three.

The EV6 was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2023. The Mirai has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.

A group of representative automotive journalists from North America selected the EV6 as the 2023 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year. The Mirai has never been chosen.

The Kia EV6 outsold the Toyota Mirai by almost 38 to one during 2024.
