Compare the2025 Ford Mustang Mach-EVS 2025 Polestar 2

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Mustang Mach-E are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Polestar 2 doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

Both the Mustang Mach-E and the Polestar 2 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E (built after August 2024) has achieved the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) highest rating of “Top Safety Pick Plus” for the 2024 model year. This distinction is based on its exceptional performance in IIHS’ rigorous battery of safety tests. Specifically, it earned a “Good” rating in the latest, more stringent moderate overlap front crash test, a “Good” result in the updated side impact test, and a “Good” score in the revised pedestrian crash prevention test. The Polestar 2 has not yet been evaluated by the IIHS for 2024.

Ford’s powertrain warranty covers the Mustang Mach-E 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Polestar covers the 2. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the Polestar 2 ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are almost 94 times as many Ford dealers as there are Polestar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Mustang Mach-E’s warranty.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Mustang Mach-E’s reliability 15 points higher than the Polestar 2.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Ford vehicles are better in initial quality than Polestar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Ford above average in initial quality. With 137 more problems per 100 vehicles, Polestar is rated below average.

The Mustang Mach-E GT Performance/Rally’s standard electric motors produces 4 more horsepower (480 vs. 476) and 154 lbs.-ft. more torque (700 vs. 546) than the Polestar 2’s electric motors.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Mustang Mach-E’s wheelbase is 9.9 inches longer than on the Polestar 2 (117.5 inches vs. 107.6 inches).

The Mustang Mach-E GT handles at .92 G’s, while the Polestar 2 pulls only .88 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

For greater off-road capability the Mustang Mach-E has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Polestar 2 (5.8 vs. 5.7 inches), allowing the Mustang Mach-E to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The Mustang Mach-E has 5.1 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Polestar 2 (101.1 vs. 96).

The Mustang Mach-E has 1.1 inches more front legroom, 1.7 inches more front hip room, 3 inches more front shoulder room, 1.2 inches more rear headroom, 4.2 inches more rear legroom and 3.3 inches more rear shoulder room than the Polestar 2.

The Mustang Mach-E’s optional easy entry system glides the driver’s seat back when the door is unlocked or the ignition is switched off, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The Polestar 2 doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

In case you lock your keys in your vehicle, or don’t have them with you, you can let yourself in using the Mustang Mach-E’s exterior PIN entry system. The Polestar 2 doesn’t offer an exterior PIN entry system, and its Polestar Connect can’t unlock the doors if the vehicle doesn’t have cell phone reception or the driver can’t contact the service.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Mustang Mach-E has a standard rear wiper. The Polestar 2 doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Mustang Mach-E has standard extendable sun visors. The Polestar 2 doesn’t offer extendable visors.

The Mustang Mach-E’s optional Active Park Assist 2.0 can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The Polestar 2 doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

The Mustang Mach-E is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The Polestar 2 doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

Consumer Reports® recommends the Ford Mustang Mach-E, based on reliability, safety and performance. The Polestar 2 isn't recommended.

Car and Driver performed a comparison test in its July 2021 issue and the Ford Mustang Mach-E Select 4 won out over the Polestar 2.

A group of representative automotive journalists from North America selected the Mustang Mach-E as the 2021 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year. The Polestar 2 has never been chosen.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E outsold the Polestar 2 by over 11 to one during 2024.
