For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Audi SQ8 are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Land Rover Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

In a Vehicle-to-Vehicle Frontal Crash Prevention 2.0 test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Audi SQ8 achieved a “Acceptable” rating - the second highest possible - for its performance in forward collision warning and automatic braking systems, demonstrating its excellent capabilities in preventing collisions. The Land Rover Range Rover Sport has not been tested.

The SQ8 has a standard Secondary Collision Brake Assist, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The SQ8 has standard Maneuver Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer automatic braking for stationary objects directly to the rear.

Earlier warning of stopped traffic, traffic signals, dangerous road conditions, weather, or accidents, can keep driver's safer and prevent crashes. The SQ8 has Car-to-X Services, a system that seamlessly communicates important warnings to the driver about impending danger, if they're available. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer a system that can receive automated systems from infrastructure.

A passive infrared night vision system optional on the SQ8 Prestige helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer a night vision system.

Both the SQ8 and the Range Rover Sport have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The SQ8’s corrosion warranty is 6 years longer than the Range Rover Sport’s (12 vs. 6 years).

There are over 50 percent more Audi dealers than there are Land Rover dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the SQ8’s warranty.

The SQ8’s 4.0 turbo V8 hybrid produces 145 more horsepower (500 vs. 355) and 199 lbs.-ft. more torque (568 vs. 369) than the Range Rover Sport P360’s standard 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cylinder hybrid. The SQ8’s 4.0 turbo V8 hybrid produces 105 more horsepower (500 vs. 395) and 162 lbs.-ft. more torque (568 vs. 406) than the Range Rover Sport P400’s standard 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cylinder hybrid. The SQ8’s 4.0 turbo V8 hybrid produces 46 more horsepower (500 vs. 454) and 81 lbs.-ft. more torque (568 vs. 487) than the Range Rover Sport P460e’s standard 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cylinder hybrid. The SQ8’s 4.0 turbo V8 hybrid produces 15 lbs.-ft. more torque (568 vs. 553) than the Range Rover Sport SV’s standard 4.4 turbo V8 hybrid.

As tested in Car and Driver the Audi SQ8 is faster than the Range Rover Sport P360 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cylinder hybrid:

The SQ8 has 3.6 gallons more fuel capacity than the Range Rover Sport P460e/P550e’s standard fuel tank (22.5 vs. 18.9 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

For better stopping power the SQ8’s standard front brake rotors are larger than those on the Range Rover Sport:

For better traction, the SQ8 has larger tires than the Range Rover Sport (285/40R22 vs. 275/50R21).

The SQ8’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Range Rover Sport’s standard 50 series tires. The SQ8’s optional tires have a lower 35 series profile than the Range Rover Sport SV’s 40 series front tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the SQ8 has standard 22-inch wheels. Smaller 21-inch wheels are standard on the Range Rover Sport.

The SQ8 Prestige handles at .92 G’s, while the Range Rover Sport SE pulls only .81 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The SQ8 executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 3.2 seconds quicker than the Range Rover Sport Autobiography (24 seconds @ .82 average G’s vs. 27.2 seconds @ .66 average G’s).

The SQ8 has 1.3 inches more front legroom and 2.4 inches more rear legroom than the Range Rover Sport.

The SQ8 has a larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Range Rover Sport with its rear seat folded (60.7 vs. 53 cubic feet).

While the Range Rover Sport P460e/P550e can only tow 6613, any SQ8 can tow a minimum of 7700 pounds.

If the windows are left open on the SQ8 the driver can close them all at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Range Rover Sport can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the SQ8 to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. Heated windshield washer nozzles cost extra on the Range Rover Sport.

Laser headlights, optional on the SQ8, produce their light by firing blue lasers through phosphorus, a process that uses one-half the power of the Range Rover Sport’s LED headlights. Laser headlights can have double the range of LEDs with a much smaller surface area.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the SQ8 has standard extendable sun visors. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer extendable visors.

A manual rear sunshade and power rear side window sunshades are optional in the SQ8 to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer a rear sunshade.

The SQ8 Prestige’s Park Assist Plus can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Park Assist Plus will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The Range Rover Sport’s automatic parking system does not offer parking by remote control.
