The BMW M5 has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. The Charger doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

The M5 has standard PostCrash iBrake, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Charger doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Both the M5 and the Charger have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The M5 comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Charger’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 14,000 miles sooner.

The M5’s corrosion warranty is 7 years longer than the Charger’s (12 vs. 5 years).

BMW pays for scheduled maintenance on the M5 for 3 years and 36,000 miles. BMW will pay for oil changes, tire rotations, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Dodge doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the Charger.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that BMW vehicles are better in initial quality than Dodge vehicles. With 95 fewer problems per 100 vehicles, JD Power ranks BMW higher than Dodge.

The M5’s 4.4 turbo V8 hybrid produces 221 more horsepower (717 vs. 496) and 334 lbs.-ft. more torque (738 vs. 404) than the Charger Daytona R/T Coupe’s standard electric motors. The M5’s 4.4 turbo V8 hybrid produces 47 more horsepower (717 vs. 670) and 111 lbs.-ft. more torque (738 vs. 627) than the Charger Daytona Scat Pack Coupe’s standard electric motors.

The M5 has a standard locking fuel door and a locking charge port with a power remote release convenient to the driver and which locks and unlocks with the power locks, respectively. The Charger doesn’t have a locking charge port. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank and a locking charge port prevents tampering and damage.

For better stopping power the M5’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Charger:

The M5 offers optional heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The Charger doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

For better traction, the M5 has larger standard tires than the Charger (285/40R20 vs. 245/55R18).

The M5’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Charger’s standard 55 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the M5 has standard 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the Charger. The Charger’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.

The BMW M5 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 300 to 450 pounds less than the Dodge Charger.

The M5 is 5.9 inches shorter than the Charger Daytona Scat Pack Coupe, making the M5 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces. The M5 is 6 inches shorter than the Charger Daytona R/T Coupe.

The M5 has 1.5 inches more front headroom and 1.2 inches more rear headroom than the Charger.

The M5 has a larger trunk with its rear seat folded than the Charger with its rear seat folded (57.6 vs. 37.4 cubic feet).

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the M5’s liftgate can be opened and closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Charger doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

The M5’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. An easy entry system costs extra on the Charger.

The M5’s standard power windows have a locking feature to keep children in the rear seat from operating them, but the driver can still raise and lower all of them with the lock engaged. Dodge does not offer a locking feature on the Charger’s standard power windows.

If the windows are left open on the M5 the driver can close them all at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Charger can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The M5 has two rear doors to provide better access for cargo and rear passengers. The Charger doesn’t offer rear doors.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the M5 has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Charger doesn’t offer cornering lights. The M5 also has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

A power rear sunshade and manual rear side window sunshades are optional in the M5 to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Charger doesn’t offer a rear or rear side window sunshades.

The BMW M5 has power folding mirrors that offer unparalleled convenience while maneuvering in tight places or parked. With the mirrors folded it’s easier to walk past and help prevent parking damage. The mirrors can be quickly unfolded when the driver is ready to leave. Power folding mirrors are not standard on all versions of the Charger.

The M5 offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Charger.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the BMW M5 has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the Charger.

The M5’s Parking Assistant can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, with the driver only controlling the transmission and speed with the brake pedal. With its available fully controlled system, the driver just activates it and it parks autonomously, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The Charger doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

The BMW M5 comes in sedan and station wagon bodystyles; the Dodge Charger isn’t available as a sedan or station wagon.
